Philosophy

Major Gift Solutions was created from an awareness that something was missing from the world of major gift fundraising. You’ve probably experienced it before: the temptation to prioritize everything else but relationships in your effort to raise money for your nonprofit.

During this incredibly unique time, we need a movement that reminds us of the irreducibly human nature of philanthropy.

The approaches of last year, much less last decade, must be updated. A fresh approach to fundraising, based first on an awareness of our donors’ humanity, can serve as one of many reminders that are needed in the ongoing conversation about best practices in an ever-changing global environment.

Major Gift Solutions makes a simple claim: donors are not a means to an end; they are an end in themselves. Our fundraising strategies are designed to help you usher your donors toward a deeper fulfillment of their humanity – toward “more of themselves,” if you will.

In this sense, what you will get is both ethical and practical.

Drawing from years of experience in the religious and educational fields, including research in philosophy, theology, and ethics, we incorporate moral and ethical values into our fundraising strategies.

The big idea is not really new. Previous consultants have urged those of us in the nonprofit world to focus on our donors – to place them at the center of our fundraising efforts. And we’re not here to correct them.

We’re here to remind you that the donors who support your mission are real people. In the explosion of fundraising efforts centered on data and in the wake of challenging global events, this reminder is indeed timely. There are real strategies – that produce real results – that you can implement to respond to your donors’ humanity and to make them feel like they are a part of something vital. You can help them be fulfilled. And you might just find yourself raising money in the process.

Donors are people.

  • They want to be seen.
  • They want to be included.
  • They want to be needed.
  • They want to be appreciated.

Straightforward.

Turning traditional categories of moves management on their head – qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship – we walk you through a process of seeing the right donors, the right way, and working with them to maximize their philanthropic hopes through your nonprofit.
